In part three of our authentic personal branding series ‘3 Tips to Build an Authentic Personal Brand’, we explore what it takes to own your authentic brand. Remember to catch up on Part 1 and Part 2.
When I delivered a keynote on this at Blake Morgan LLP’s next generation event, I gave an analogy of the Phoenix.
In Greek mythology, the Phoenix is a long-lived bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again.
Associated with the Sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. According to some sources, the phoenix dies in a show of flames and combustion, although there are other sources that claim that the legendary bird dies and simply decomposes before being born again*.
Tips to Build an Authentic Personal Brand
The point here is that when we are on a journey to own up to our authentic brand and become the true us in everything we do, it is not necessarily going to be a smooth ride all of the time.
Owning up to our brand means being able to stay in and voice out our truth even when most people may not see it that way. This can be in all live situations including business and home environments.
It also requires a deep knowing of the greatness we are destined for even when the current reality does not match up to it yet.
Just like the Phoenix, burning to ashes does not mean the true self can no longer rise up and fly again even higher! In fact, it does and so do we.
Tip 3 – Own Up to Your Brand
1. It’s not the fall that matters. It’s how we rise up!
2. Winging it can only take us so far – not being authentic will always reveal itself to those that matter in the long run!
3. Develop depth in knowing your true self; be willing to evolve. The Phoenix does this!
